Position Summary

The University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences annually trains 800 residents and fellows to become clinicians, researchers, teachers and leaders in their fields. The University at Buffalo Office of Graduate Medical Education provides a variety of services, including employee health services, to support the University’s residents and fellows during their training. This position will direct the employee health functions for two corporations – University Medical Resident Services, P.C. and University Dental Resident Services, P.C. – that employ approximately 800 medical and dental residents

The Employee Health Services Medical Director reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education (GME). This will be a 0.20 FTE position, but the time spent is variable, depending upon the time of year. Director must be able to commit 0.80 FTE during GME orientation time in June and July (approximately two weeks per year). Director must be flexible to accommodate the demands of the position.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Manage the employee health service functions of the corporation;
•Review and develop policies and procedures according to University at Buffalo, Erie County, New York State and Federal Government guidelines;
•Ensure that all medical records are kept in a manner compliant with appropriate policies and procedures, including transition to an electronic medical record;
•Responsible for organizing pre-employment physicals for approximately 250 incoming residents and fellows with assistance of professional staff from UB-affiliated hospitals following proper OSHA protocol;
•Responsible for managing annual health assessments for approximately 800 residents and fellows;
•Assess, provide or refer residents and fellows to appropriate medical/mental health services and conduct fitness for duty evaluations;
•Liaison to the University at Buffalo Resident Well-Being Subcommittee;
•Consult with Senior Associate Dean for GME regarding workers’ compensation, infection control, impaired physician, and other employee health related issues;
•Supervise part-time administrative staff member.

Salary: $45,000 – $50,000

Minimum Qualifications

•Medical (MD) or Osteopathic (DO) degree;
•Familiarity with local, state and federal OSHA regulations;

Preferred Qualifications

•3-5 years’ experience in the field of occupational health;
