Position Summary

The School of Public Health and Health Professions (SPHHP) at the University at Buffalo (UB), State University of New York (SUNY), seeks a Chair of Biostatistics. We seek candidates with a strong record of excellence in academic leadership and statistical research, including peer-reviewed, extramurally-funded research, and enthusiasm to further develop the department’s academic and research programs.

Candidates should have a PhD in biostatistics or related discipline and a record consistent with appointment at the rank of full professor with tenure.

Founded in 2003, the Department of Biostatistics has rapidly developed a reputation for excellence in methodologic and collaborative translational research as well as national recognition in education. The department offers a rich array of academic programs including PhD and MA programs in biostatistics, a MS in bioinformatics and biostatistics, and a MPH in biostatistics.

Additional programs include an advanced graduate certificate in applied biostatistics and biostatistical bioinformatics to non-majors and an undergraduate minor in statistics. A proposal to add an undergraduate degree in statistics is in the final stage of review.

Department faculty are actively engaged in a vibrant program of impactful methodologic and transdisciplinary research that collectively advances both statistical and health sciences. Collaborative research within and outside of the university is integrated synergistically with the department’s academic and research missions.

UB and Buffalo provide a rich environment for advancement of the department and its faculty. In addition to the SPHHP, the department has strong relationships with the UB Clinical and Translational Research Center, awarded a NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award, the Schools of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dental Medicine and with regional affiliated institutions such as the New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Erie County Medical Center, Kaleida and the Buffalo VA hospital.

UB is a member of the Association of American Universities and is the largest and most comprehensive research-intensive university in the SUNY system. The SPHHP is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health.

Known as the “City of Good Neighbors,” Buffalo has been named as one of the best cities in the US in which to live; For more information about the city and the region, please see http://sphhp.buffalo.edu/home/about-us/the-buffaloniagara-region.html.
