Position Summary

This position will serve as an Office Assistant 1 in the Department of Transnational Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Buffalo. This is a customer service oriented position and requires the incumbent to provide excellent customer service to various populations.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):

• Refer visitors, direct incoming calls, and messages to appropriate staff members or faculty
• Operate office equipment such as copiers, fax, computers and office technology
• Distribute incoming and outgoing mail, paychecks and advices
• Assist the Assistant to the Chair with creating reports, forms, documents and various other duties that are deemed appropriate.
• Maintain files, office supplies, conference room schedules, and kitchen/break area
• The incumbent will also serve as the undergraduate secretary for both Transnational Studies and Global Gender Studies performing the following duties: Force registration; update student information in the appropriate university system, degree audit, assist undergraduate directors with coordination of open house and other university or departmental functions, create course description booklets each semester advertising course offering, serve as point person for the revision of UB Undergraduate Catalog, and book student appointments with the undergraduate directors

The Department of Transnational Studies offers a range of degree programs aimed to promote excellence in cross-border, comparative, and interdisciplinary research and teaching. It administers UB’s graduate programs in American Studies, which offer both masters and doctoral degrees. A graduate-level Native Studies program is housed within the American Studies programs. The Department also offers a Master of Arts in Humanities in the Caribbean and Latin/o American Studies Program, and a Joint Masters of Arts (with Brock University) in Canadian-American Studies. For undergraduates, the Department offers Bachelor’s degrees in African and African American Studies, and American Studies, as well as undergraduate minors in all of these fields and in Polish Studies and Latino/a Studies.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Transfer Eligibility Requirement: You must have a current permanent appointment with a minimum of 1 year of service in a position of the same title or transferable title.
2. Reassignment Requirement: You must hold the same title at the University at Buffalo.
3. Reinstatement Requirement: You must be a former state employee to request reinstatement to the title that was held (or transferable title).
