Position Summary

The Department Resource Manager (DRM) coordinates and executes the administration of the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health (EEH), in the School of Public Health and Health Professions (SPHHP) at the University at Buffalo. The DRM’s work is primarily focused on finances, human resources, and office management for EEH. The DRM should be a self-directed professional who will perform tasks and responsibilities aimed at maximizing the effectiveness of the chair and of the operations of the department.

Responsibilities include:

• Financial management including budgeting, processing purchases, and reconciling all departmental funding (New York State, Research Foundation, and UB Foundation), and financial management of department grants and contracts.

• Human resource management for faculty, staff, and student employees, including appointments (offer letters, e-PTF’s, immigration filing, etc.), reappointments, promotions (including supporting the tenure process), and time and attendance tracking for clerical staff.

• Administrative oversight including informing and advising the chair on departmental functioning, providing strategic thinking regarding departmental administration, acting as a confidant to the chair on matters related to departmental operations, and supporting the chair as needed. General office management including coordinating and executing day-to-day operations of the department, day-to-day oversight of departmental staff including new employee orientation.

• The DRM works with the SPHHP dean’s office, particularly in matters related to funding, financial reporting and projections, budgets, personnel, and decanal and university policies.

EEH has a long and distinguished history in research and student education. Part of the School of Public Health and Health Professions (SPHHP), the department offers PhD, MS and MPH degrees in epidemiology, environmental health and health services administration. Faculty in EEH engage in collaborative and transdisciplinary research with faculty across the university, as well as regionally, nationally and internationally. Department research includes cancer, cardiovascular disease, women’s health, nutrition, physical activity, infectious disease, environmental epidemiology, global health and health services research.

The University at Buffalo School of Public Health and Health Professions offers programs at every degree level and is the home to five departments; biostatistics, community health and health behavior, epidemiology and environmental health, exercise and nutrition sciences, and rehabilitation science. It is one of only a few schools across the country that includes health-related professions as an integral component of the public health educational and research system. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with at least two years of related professional experience in business, finance or administration, strong communication skills (listening, written and oral), leadership and organizational skills, ability to work in a team. Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential data.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree, professional experience in higher education especially in resource management, expertise in finance (budget development and reporting), business, and/or accounting, experience in human resources, experience in grants management.
