Position Summary

The incumbent is responsible for complete supervision of a multi-trades staff composed of skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled employees. They are expected to effectively supervise and plan the work for staff in university residence halls and/or apartment areas. They must have and be able to demonstrate working knowledge of the principles of supervision and the practical application of those principles. The incumbent is expected to work as a team member with other technical and non-technical professionals. It is necessary to have, in addition to supervisory experience/skills, excellent administrative, customer service, management and communication skills. They should have a demonstrable ability to work within purchasing guidelines and budgetary constraints.

The incumbent is expected to have and been able to demonstrate thorough knowledge of various trades, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, roofing, masonry/painting, HVAC and locksmithing in order to provide technical guidance, supervision and planning. They are expected to have and be able to demonstrate knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in electrical, mechanical and building trades. They must be able to review job orders, understand blueprints and specifications, communicate with outside contractors, determine dimensions, materials and labor required to complete projects. They must also have and be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of applicable standards and appropriate building and construction code regulations. The incumbent will be involved in capital projects which will necessitate participation on project teams. The must have working knowledge of safety procedures. The incumbent will be expected to use various computerized programs and is therefore expected to be computer literate and comfortable with various software applications, including Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word. Knowledge of electromechanical and mechanical building access system is needed.

Since the activities of other employees depend upon the availability of the employee in this position, reliable time and attendance is a factor that will be considered when filling this vacancy. This position requires travel on campus, between campuses and off campus. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of skilled trade experience in the mechanical, electrical, building or other trades subsequent to the completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience as required for a number of mechanical, electrical or building trades positions.

Must be able to demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will have experience in a college/university housing setting and have a proven track record of effective supervision. A valid NYS driver’s license is preferred to meet the travel needs of the position.

Physical Demands

The incumbent must be able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach and be able to work from elevated heights when required.

Salary Range $46,836
Work Hours

Monday – Friday
8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.
Overtime, work on holidays and non-scheduled days may be required.
