Position Summary

A postdoctoral researcher position is available at Dr. Zhen Wang’s research group in the Department of Biological Sciences of the State University of New York at Buffalo. The group is interested in providing solutions for the sustainable and economical production of plant-based medicines through metabolic engineering and synthetic biology. In particular, the candidate will lead a project for the discovery of genes involved in the scopolamine biosynthesis pathway of Hyoscyamus niger. Scopolamine is on the WHO’s List of Essential Medicines for treating postoperative nausea. The successful candidate must be highly motivated with strong interpersonal and communication skills. The candidate will gain experience in transcriptomics, metabolomics, metabolic engineering, and synthetic biology that will result in ample publications and significant career development.

Minimum Qualifications

- Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, plant biology, biological engineering, or related fields
- Extensive experience with biochemistry and molecular biology technologies
- Experience with plants and microorganisms such as E. coli and yeast
- Independent and highly self-driven
- Excellent scientific communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with tobacco, arabidopsis, and yeast
- Experience with RNA-seq and transcriptome analysis
- Familiar with Linux , Python, MatLab, or R
- Experience with Mass Spectrometry and HPLC

Physical Demands
Salary Range $36,000 - $42,000
