Position Summary

The Graduate Studies Coordinator within the Department of Chemistry serves a vital role in promoting the educational and career success of a growing population of approximately 150+ active graduate students, with 40+ new admissions each academic year. This position is the primary department contact for graduate students, potential and current.

The incumbent will work closely with the Director of Graduate Studies in the department as well as Graduate Enrollment Coordinators in the College of Arts and Sciences to ensure prospective and current students are actively recruited and then appropriately supported through the application process, matriculation, and program completion. Through use of modern communication and social media/computer skills; exceptional customer service, interpersonal, and administrative skills, he/she will work to recruit, enroll, support, and retain exceptional students for Master’s and PhD programs in the department.

Ideal candidates are self-starters who proactively anticipate and solve problems; can manage high volume, complex, and competing priorities; are comfortable working in a team environment and with varied populations (i.e., prospective students, applicants, faculty, campus service units) to reach shared goals; and can maintain composure in stressful situations. Qualified candidates will possess current communication and computing skills including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Proficiency using the Microsoft Office suite of software, specifically with Excel, Word, and Outlook. Ability to quickly master new software programs and administrative tools. Excellent oral and written communications skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and in a professional manner with faculty, staff, and students. Excellent customer service skills including the ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.

Preferred Qualifications

Administrative experience in an academic setting and experience with University systems (HUB, GradMIT, new Student System) preferred.
