Position Summary

The Office of International Admissions at the University at Buffalo invites applications for the position of International Admissions Assistant.

The International Admissions Assistant will manage international undergraduate, graduate and professional applications for university admission. He or she will receive, sort and review applications and records; verify and evaluate foreign and domestic academic credentials; calculate grade point averages including converting foreign grades; evaluate undergraduate coursework (domestic and international) and determine undergraduate transfer credits; verify and evaluate applicant financial and immigration documents; recommend admissions decisions for assigned applicant group(s); enter relevant data into applicable information systems and create files as needed; and issue certificates of Visa Eligibility.

The International Admissions Assistant will monitor and help manage office communications, including mail and e-mail, and social networking accounts. This includes responding to inquiries and advising on application requirements, admissions criteria, and various aspects of university life; working closely with the office’s Assistant Director for Communications to support a continuous review of applicant communications and outlets; and liaising with other university offices to disseminate information on International Admissions processing procedures.

The International Admissions Assistant will also support international admissions administrative tasks, such as developing and creating admissions and yield reports; creating and maintaining reference materials related to international student admissions; and/or overseeing student and graduate student assistant work schedules and assignments. He or she will assist in preparing and submitting annual budget requests, recommending and requesting office purchases, among other similar duties.

The International Admissions Assistant may also help support office outreach programs and/or participate in outreach and yield enhancement activities, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree. One year of responsible, related work experience, preferably in international admissions. Strong computer skills, including electronic communication tools, spreadsheets, databases.

Demonstrated intercultural skills and first-hand experience in a multi-cultural setting, and a knowledge of or an ability and interest to learn about a wide variety of educational documents from around the world.

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks with deadlines simultaneously.

US citizenship or legal permanent residency is required, as mandated by federal [SEVP] regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to work non-standard/flexible (evening and weekend) hours, especially during the peak admission processing season of January though May.
