Position Summary

The Drug Discovery Group within the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at University at Buffalo is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist with strong expertise in areas of circadian rhythms, molecular neuropharmacology, signaling, and/or in behavioral animal models. Research will focus on how novel compounds with therapeutic potential affect the MT1 and MT2 melatonin receptor signaling, and behavior in animal models with circadian rhythms disruption to address potential treatment for jet lag, delay/advance sleep, depression, and cancer among others.

Research activities will include characterizing novel and potential therapeutic molecules targeting the melatonin receptors using molecular pharmacology approaches in cell base functional screens, as well as in various in vivo behavioral and circadian models.

Excellent interpersonal skills, independence and leadership are essential traits to run complex experiments, provide guidance, and direct the work of technicians and/or students doing short rotations, and to interact with graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and faculty.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s Degree in a related field with a strong background in neuropharmacology, excellent publication record, and strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD or MD/PhD preferred. A strong interest in drug discovery, knowledge of receptor pharmacology, experience with behavioral models and circadian rhythms models.
