Position Summary

This position will work collaboratively with Western New York community liaison pre-K-12 school districts, who provide intensive, mentored field experiences and student teaching opportunities.

The Graduate School of Education (GSE) at the University at Buffalo (UB) prepares students to be highly-qualified teachers in numerous fields. Housed in GSE, the Teacher Education Institute (TEI) is most closely affiliated with our Department of Learning and Instruction (LAI).

This position:
• Coordinates student, staff, and faculty preparation for the New York State Teacher Certification Exams, and recommends students for initial teacher certification
• Maintains current knowledge of New York State Department of Education regulation changes related to teacher certification
• Reviews UB Curriculum’s general education requirements in liberal arts and sciences with prospective students during the admissions process, and serves as the point of contact for enrolled TEI students regarding these requirements
• Leads the seminar in teaching course (LAI 674), which is taken in conjunction with student teaching
• Works as part of a team on the program accreditation process, and coordinates reporting to external agencies
• Works collaboratively with the Assistant Dean for Teacher Education/Director of TEI
• May require travel to local schools and local/state/national meetings

Minimum Qualifications

The employee in this position must possess: (1) a minimum of a bachelor’s degree with New York State initial teacher certification, with one year teaching experience; (2) technology proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, with the capacity to learn new programs/technologies; (3) the ability to make independent decisions related to tasks assigned and utilizing established policies and procedures; and (4) excellent oral and written communication and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the minimum position qualifications, it is preferred that the employee possess: (1) a relevant master’s degree, with one to three years of teaching experience in pre-K-12 schools; (2)experience working with a range of teachers and teacher educators; and (3) a beginning knowledge of the facets of the regents reform agenda (e.g., common core learning standards, clinically rich teacher preparation, performance assessments).

Physical Demands

Some travel to area school districts and attendance at local/state/national meetings.

Salary Range $40,000-$43,000, 12-month salary
